Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd ISO14001 activities operate based on two pillars: "storewide activities" and "departmental activities". Each activity follows the PDCA cycle.

2011 Environmental Goals and Action Plan
We thrash out all the environmental aspects of our business activities, and based on that, we set more concrete environmental goals of "storewide activities" and "departmental activities" respectively.
- Storewide activities: energy- and resources-saving activities by all employees
- Departmental activities: each department deploys their own environmental activities

Revision of Compliance with Environment-related Laws
Assigned managers annually revise our Environmental Management System and improve the PDCA cycle after thoroughly studying the results of auditing conducted internally and externally results and examining the state of law compliance and environmental performance.

As outlined below, goals have been set until the end of 2011. The goals are written as above in "Plan 2011."
Highlight of the Activities in 2011
- Mitsui Sumitomo Primary Life Insurance began its environmental management system of ISO 14001. By this, all insurance companies of MS&AD group are promoting the ISO 14001 management system.
- In 2010, MS&AD group has set mid-long term reduction goal of CO2 emission. Goals and activity plans of the ISO 14001 are set to achieve this goal (Goals are set for electricity and gasoline which are the main emission of CO2 of Mitui Sumitomo Insurance. )
- According to the special conditions such as indication from the Japan's government of the electricity reduction and the merger of the group corporation, we will reexamine the goals on the end of first half of the year.

Review of Compliance with Environment-related Laws
We hold a nationwide review on how we are complying with environment-related laws. Through this process, we confirm that there has been no violation of such laws, environment-related litigation or demands from people concerned.
Internal Environmental Auditing
We hold regular internal auditing to ensure that our Environmental Management System is in line with ISO 14001 and is operated accordingly.

Following our environmental management plan, we are steadily meeting our environmental goals. We check the performance regularly and where operations are deemed insufficient, we proceed to corrective plans.

Environmental Education
Through organizing various educational training sessions, we commit to raising awareness in environmental issues and environmental management system and foster individuals to actively participate in environmental activities.
From 2005, all staff including full-time, part-time and temporary staff are enrolled in environmental education using e-learning. To help their learning to sink in, each staff is given an "ISO14001" card with summarized activities on it.
