Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd.
Following the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Tohoku area in Japan on 11 March, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd (President Yasuyoshi Karasawa) immediately established a Disaster Control Head Quarters at its Head Office in Tokyo.
The purpose of the DCHQ is to fully assist the victims with smooth payment of claims and inquiries related to the disaster.
At the same time, in order to support the severely affected Tohoku Claims Service Team, the company formed an Emergency Claims Payment Backup Team within the Head Office building, initially starting with 300 people which was further increased to 450 from today.
The company has so far received more than 10,000 applications for payment of claims related to the earthquake and expect the numbers to increase further. While it is difficult to make any estimate of the final number of claims and claim amount at this early stage, the company expects the impact on its capital and liquidity to be manageable.
At this point the companies focus is to ensure full customer service and rapid payment of claims.
We will make further announcements on the situation once available.
