First of all, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your outstanding effort and commitment throughout last year; otherwise we would not have been able to overcome the tough economic environment to achieve the year-on-year revenue increase. In order to ensure that we can drive growth further this year, your continued cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

2011 Ambitions

In starting the New Year, I would like you to put into practice three elements.
Firstly, I want you to aim to be a professional by reviewing operations and taking on challenging tasks without sticking to the traditional values and business scope.
In order to achieve MS&AD Insurance group’s aim of becoming the world’s leading insurance and financial group, our company must take the initiative in further enhancing our corporate quality and achieving sustainable growth.
In other words, we must work on increasing revenues and raising profitability during the current tough economic conditions.
In order to achieve this, I want all of you to put into practice the five values in your day-to-day operations, and make a positive contribution to our business by fulfilling your strengths.
Employees of top global companies without exception, are sharing values with all of their colleagues.

Secondly, I want you to always take on challenges to bring innovation.
A company cannot survive without change.. A company’s survival depends on its ability to grow by bringing innovation and stimulating “metabolism”.
I think that, especially in the current difficult economic times, it is important for all of us to create opportunities by pursuing change and taking on challenges.
Our “New Frontier 2013” shows our vision for the medium term, and how well we can achieve such vision depends on the ability of each of us to put into practice our knowledge and courage.
So, let’s work on bringing reforms by eliminating any gap between the company and staff.

Thirdly, I want you to always have a “positive spirit”.
There is no point in listing out the reasons for not being able to carry out anything difficult.
When you encounter a difficult problem, I want each of you to always think for yourself how to overcome such problem and take actions for yourself.
Our top-line has been increasing steadily thanks to your strenuous effort. This demonstrates that we have been taking the right actions.
By achieving “innovation” and “integration synergy” which we are currently working on, I believe as President that we can definitely bring growth to our company and, in turn, to MS&AD Insurance Group.
So, let’s work together by having a positive mindset of believing that “we will and we can make it better”.

Final Words

According to the Chinese calendar, this year is the “the year of rabbit”. Rabbits are said to be lively animals that move in the good direction. There is also a Japanese proverb that literally translates “an ascending slope of a rabbit”, meaning we are able to leverage our strength and carry out everything efficiently.
This year is a memorable year, marking the 10th anniversary of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.
In order to prepare for going on to the new stage in the next ten years, I want to make this year the year for growing our company to a higher dimension by leveraging strengths of each employee.
Therefore, let’s create a corporate culture whereby we can take on challenges as a professional in line with our corporate values, and thereby achieve the sustainable growth of each employee, MSI and, in turn, MS&AD Insurance Group.
