Five Companies in the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Receive ISO 14001 Certification for All Offices ---First in Japanese Financial Industry--- |
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd., (President, Chief Executive Officer: Hiroyuki Uemura) and four group companies received ISO 14001 certification for all offices in Japan-a total of 385 locations-from the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), the Japanese certification body of the ISO. This is not only the first time that a company has had all its locations granted simultaneous ISO 14001 certification in the life and non-life insurance industry, but also the first time a financial institution with a nationwide business network has received such certification at all its offices. |

3. Steps Taken to Receive Certification: *During the merger completed in October 2001, the "Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Environmental Policy" was formulated and an environmental management system was introduced at headquarters and at three computer centers, in the cities of Inzai, Chiba Prefecture; Hachioji, Tokyo; and Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture.
*The Company conducted a complete reevaluation of its environmental management system in May 2002. It then set the goal of obtaining certification for all its offices in Japan, including the four group companies-a total of 385 locations nationwide-and obtained certification following the required inspections. |
4. Global Environmental Protection Activities of the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group The Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group has already taken such actions to protect the environment as conversion of its company vehicles to low pollution models, introduction of green procurement of stationery and copy machine paper, use of non-tree pulp (kenaf) for company business cards, and serving as the only Asian working committee member of the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) Insurance Association.
