Distribution of non-disposable chopsticks (Hong Kong)
In Taiwan, about 1 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks are consumed every year. MSIG Mingtai Insurance distributed metal chopsticks for permanent use to all of its employees, together with a card reminding them of the need to protect the global environment.
Volunteers cleaned a temple in Ayutthaya in Thailand and planted trees in the garden (Thailand Branch)
On June 14th, MSI Thailand Branch hosted a CSR event "Green the Earth" at a temple in the Ayutthaya city of Thailand. 100 volunteers from MSI Thailand Branch and MSIG Thailand participated in cleaning the temple and planted 70 trees. In addition to this, we distributed 600 fabric bags to people in the village in exchange for 5 PET bottles, and called for environmental protection. (June 2008)

Volunteers planted the flowerbed in Zoorasia Yokohama Zoological Gardens (Mitsui Sumitomo Kirameki Life Insurance Co., Ltd.)
Over 100 volunteers from Mitsui Sumitomo Kirameki Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and group companies, including their family members, planted the flowerbed in "Kirameki Flower Garden" in Zoorasia (that has been maintained by the volunteers since 2006). The flowerbed was planted with 1400 zinnia seedlings and 800 gladiola bulbs, and in the area near the "water-bird pond", 100 shrubs (Japanese rose, Thunberg's meadowsweet and Japanese hydrangea) were planted. Volunteering at "Special Olympics in Yamagata" (Yamagata Service Center, Yamagata Branch)
"2008 Special Olympics Nippon National Winter Game Yamagata" was held, and our 26 staff participated as volunteers at the skating rink.
A total of JPY353,000, raised from donations from our staff all over Japan and funds from our Smile Heart Club, was donated to this quadrennial event participated by 1,000 people with mental disability. (Mar.9 and 10, 2008)

Blood donation and marrow donation registration drive in various locations
We held blood donation and marrow donation registrasion drives at our Tohoku Division, Shinkawa building, Surugadai building, Kanagawa & Shizuoka Division, Chubu Division, and Kirameki Life Insurance. 299 donated their blood and 36 registered to the marrow donor. (February 2008)
Volunteer work to support handicapped children (Hiroshima Automobile Production Department)
We participated in volunteer activities to assist handicapped children at "Kogumakai Bowling". We helped the handicapped children enjoy bowling and had a great time playing with them.(Feb.24, 2008)
13th Music Club Valentine Charity Concert
A concert held by bands formed by MSI employees in the headquarters. Ticket sales and contributions from employees who couldn't attend are donated to children in Thailand and Laos through Minsai Center Japan. The concert was a big hit with 150 people attending. Proceeds reached an all time high of 930,000 yen, allowing 31 children in Thailand and Laos to attend middle school for 3 years.(Feb.22, 2008)

Blood donation and marrow donation registration drive
We held a blood donation and marrow donation registration drive at our Hachioji Center Building and the Chiba CNT Center. 178 blood donors and 12 marrow donors registered. (January 2008)
"First aid and AED course" held by 6 companies
We conducted a "First aid and AED course" in Osaka and Nagoya. The course was jointly held by 6 companies as part of a series of "volunteer courses for company employees", and approximately 100 people participated over the 2 days. AED demonstrations were held after an emergency life guard gave instructions on how to treat various parts of the body with a single sling, as well as useful first-aid in the face of emergencies. A participant commented "I felt that I can now use AED if I ever needed to". (Jan.16 and 17, 2008)

Voluntary participation in Keirin Welfare Concert (Hiroshima Automobile Production Department)
We helped out in guiding, ushering, and assisting guests with physical disabilities along with the 400 care-givers on site. We were made to realize how everyday things that we take for granted sometimes pose problems for such people. We experienced the difficulty of explaining a situation merely with words, which helped us understand more about blind people. (Jan.14, 2008)
Hokuriku Kids Project (Hokuriku division)
Employees dressed in Santa Clause and reindeers delivered Christmas presents to the orphanage in Noto that we frequently associate ourselves with. We also presented the children with a performance by a clown. The elderly who were also invited to the Christmas party enjoyed the show along with the children.This activity has been held in cooperation with Asahi Breweries, Ltd. (Dec.23, 2007)

Christmas party at community home for the intellectually disabled (Toyama branch)
6 employees participated as volunteers in the Christmas party held at Toyama City's community home for the intellectually disabled. They helped out with dances, games, and preparation of the venue. (Dec.17, 2007)

Donation of Christmas cake etc to community home for mother and child (Tohoku division)
We offered Christmas cakes, sweets and toys to 3 community homes for mother and child in Sendai City. (December 2007)
Participation in the 33rd Ashinaga P-Walk 10 (Okayama Automobile Production Dept., Sendai branch)
Ashinaga P-Walk 10 is held in all 47 prefectures, and is a 10km walk where participants are invited to think about orphans. Proceeds and donations go to orphan aid organization Ashinaga. (Nov.18, 2007)

Charity tennis event (Kanagawa Claims Department)
We held a charity tennis event to support the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association where 33 employees participated. At the event we were given the chance to use wheelchairs and experience the difficulties in maneuvering one and playing tennis.
The 180,000 yen that were collected at the event were fully donated to the association. (Nov.17, 2007)

Volunteer reforestation of the Unzen Fugen forest (Nagasaki branch)
23 of our employees and their family have participated in the volunteer reforestation of the Unzen Fugen forest organized by Kyushu Electric Power.
This is a movement that was started 7 years ago aiming to recreate the forest that was destroyed in the eruption of the Unzen Fugen forest 17 years ago. More than 1,200 people from different corporations in Nagasaki participated on the day. (Nov.20, 2007)

Making a flower bed at "Zoorasia" Yokohama Zoological Gardens (Kirameki Life Insurance)
At Kirameki Life Insurance, we have been creating flower beds at the Yokohama Zoological Gardens twice a year since FY2006. The fourth session was held by 60 people including employees and their families. Under blue skies after a typhoon, we enjoyed planting approximately 2,900 seedlings and bulbs. (Oct.28, 2007)

Tree planting ceremony organized by the 100 Years Afforestation Association (Saitama branch. Saitama-Nishi branch, Saitama Automobile Production Dept. Saitama Claims Dept.)
85 People comsisting of our employees, their families and agents have participated in Afforestation activity production Dept. at Nagatoro organized by the 100 Years Afforestation Association. More than 380 people including children and elderly people helped to plant 850 trees of 10 different types. (Oct.28, 2007)

AED training class (Hokkaido-Minami branch)
With the help from the fire department, we held an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training class, where 28 employees and agents learnt about AED, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and haemostatic method.
A participant made comment “I feel I can now handle emergency situation without panicking”. (Oct.19, 2007)

Virtual Elderly Person Experience Seminar (Osaka Commercial Production Dept.1st)
28 employees took part in the Virtual Elderly Person Experience Seminar. The participants were able to experience the dangers and discomforts of elderly and disabled people by wearing virtual experience apparatus, and therefore to understand their situation better. (Oct.19, 2007)

Participation in the "Anti-littering Campaign" (Hokkaido Claims Dept, Asahikawa Service Center)
As part of Asahikawa City's "Anti-littering Campaign", 11 volunteers consisting of our employees and their families participated in picking up litter in front of Asahikawa station, and contributed to making the city more beautiful. (Sep.30, 2007)
Insurance Consultation Booth at a road safety event (Shiga branch Hikone Service Center)
We opened an Insurance Consultation Booth at a road safety event at Hikone where 9 employees and agents participated. We promoted road safety and abolition of driving under the influence of alcohol by distributing "ABC of Safe Driving" and "Handle Keeper Campaign" booklets. (Sep.29, 2007)

Nishikinohama beach cleanup (Kashiwa Division, Osaka Commercial Business Division)
We have participated in the Nishikinohama beach cleanup. This activity has been carried out since 1990 and this year saw the participation of 80 of our employees and more than 200 employees and staff of Sumitomo Life Insurance, Sanyo Electric and Mitsui Volunteer Network. The waste that was picked up was then analyzed by NPO Clean Up which will utilize the results for the research of the sea's ecosystem. (Sep.29, 2007)

Donating stationeries to the elementary school near our forested site (Indonesia)
We have visited the elementary school near our forested site in Indonesia together with Chairman Yoshiaki Shin and donated stationeries and books. We had made donations in May 2006 in the aftermath of the Java Earthquake. Children warmly greeted us and we had the rare opportunity to directly interact with them. (Sep.22, 2007)
Cleaning public facilities in the city (Yamagata branch, Sakata Sub-branch)
On the 2nd of February, 10 employees and family and agents have participated in the "Group for Small Acts of Kindness" and contributed to making the local area more beautiful. (Sep.22, 2007)

Promoting road safety (Aichi-Higashi branth, Okazaki Service Center)
40 of our and our agents' employees have promoted road safety by distributing I-Stop Campaign* flyers.
- * The I-Stop Campaign encourages drivers to make sure to stop and check on the road situation in order to reduce cases of inattentive driving. (Sep.21, 2007)

Gathering second-hand books and DVDs to donate to NPO Jen (Chugoku Division)
We have gathered together second-hand books and DVDs over a period of two months in summer and donated 2,447 pieces or 91,100 yen through Book Magic*. The donations will be used by international aid organization Jen in the construction of schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as health education in Sudan.
- * Book Magic is a collaboration between Jen and second hand book shop Book Off, where the amount to be paid by Book Off to the customer for the purchasing of the books is instead directly contributed to Jen. (Sep.14, 2007)
Working on the flowerbeds on the Hilltop in Kushiro (Hokkaido-Higashi branch Kushiro Sub-Branch)
25 employees and their families have helped the Kushiro Shibazakura Association that aims to make the view of Kushiro from the hill full of flowers by planting shibazakuras (a type of cherry) and cosmoses, pulling unnecessary weeds from the flowerbeds in Aobadai in Kushiro, known as Hilltop. Cleaning the Sekiyahama beach (Niigata branch, Niigata Automobile Production Dept, Kanto & Koshinetsu Claims Dept 2nd)
40 employees and their families participated in the cleaning of the Sekiyahama beach in Niigata.
Various wastes were picked up to restore the beauty of the beach. (Sep.1, 2007)

Promoting earthquake insurance (Sendai branch Ishinomaki Sub-Branch office Ishinomaki Service Center)
We distributed flyers about earthquake insurance in order to raise awareness around the Ishinomaki area. This was due to the fact that a major earthquake is predicted in the area and the 1st of September, disaster prevention day, was an ideal day for such information to be diffused. We plan to continue such social contribution work through our agents in Ishinomaki. (Aug.31, 2007)
Organizing the Dolphins Kids Project
In collaboration with Asahi Breweries and Orix Corporation, we organized the Dolphins Kids Project in Taiji-cho, Wakayama prefecture where 16 children in orphanages were invited for two days to play with our employees, who volunteered on the day, and with dolphins. (Aug.4 and 5, 2007)

Donating the proceeds of a charity fair to a social welfare services foundation (Okayama branch and Advance Club Okayama branch)
Employees and Advance Club (agents of car maintenance factory) members brought together goods to sell at the Okayama Kyobashi Morning Market.
This fair was realized through the common themes in the aims of the Okayama branch, to become a local provider of Domestic Non-life Insurance, and that of the AC Okayama branch, to contribute socially, and produced 105,484 yen that were donated to Sanyo Shinbun Social Welfare Services Group. Helping disabled children (Hiroshima Automobile Production Dept.)
We helped 10 children of varying ages attending the Hiroshima School for Disabled Children while members of the Children's Festival Planning Committee had to attend a committee meeting. (Aug.4, 2007)
AED and first aid training class Commercial Production Dept.1st
We held an AED and first aid training class with the collaboration of IVUSA (International Volunteer University Student Association). Participants learnt the basics of first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and AED methods through hands-on training.
Collecting contributions at the award ceremony of the Agents Contest (Fukuoka branch)
We have collected contributions at the Life Insurance Agents Contest held by the Fukuoka branch on the 20th of July. The funds that were raised were donated to the nonprofit organization "Group of Aid for the Traffic Orphans". This was the third fund raising held at the agents Contest after April 2006 and January 2007 and we aim to continue to do the same in the future. (Jul.20, 2007)
Promoting road safety (Hokkaido-Minami branch)
48 of our and our agents' employees participated in a road safety campaign held on the 18th of July, unified action day. In Tomakomai we participated in the "Waves of Flags" alongside highways, and in Hakodate and Muroran we distributed road safety flyers with the help of the local police and supermarkets. The branch plans to continue these activities in order to eradicate driving under the influence of alcohol. (Jul.18, 2007)

Blood donation and marrow registration drive (Tohoku Division)
Following the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's structural reform on blood donation, we have registered to the Blood Donation Supporter system. On February and July every year, the two months when demand for blood is highest, we will be holding a blood donation and marrow registration drive. For this occasion 8 people donated their blood, and 10 people registered. Apart from this, we hold first aid training classes several times a year and we currently have 15 trainee. The first AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) was also recently installed. (Jul.10, 2007)

Cleaning a nursing home for the aged. (Yamaguchi branch, Yamaguchi Automobile Production Dept, Tokuyama Services Center)
20 people helped cleaning nursing home Kizuna-en gathering more than 10 garbage bags worth of weeds and waste.
This is the second time that we have helped Kizuna-en and we hope to continue doing so in the future. (Jul.7, 2007)
Beech trees plantation (Gunma Automobile Production Dept., Maebashi Automobile Production Section)
We volunteered for the plantation of beech trees. Beech trees are known for their ability to hold significant amounts of water but it takes 100 years for it to grow 1m in diameter.
As the mudslide of last year made it impossible for us to work, it was the first chance for us to work with beech trees in two years, and we were moved to see the trees we had planted 3 years ago having grown significantly. (Jun.24, 2007)
Cleaning the Enoshima Beach (Yokohama branch)
70 employees and their family helped in the cleaning of the Enoshima beach in Kanagawa. This was part of the Suteki-Yokohama project, a comprehensive effort to make the local area more beautiful and to contribute local community. (Jun.9, 2007)

Cleaning the city as part of the day for protecting the Ashida river (Hiroshima branch Fukuyama Sub-Branch)
23 employees participated in the cleaning of the city from early morning. (Jun.3, 2007)

Lecture on human power at Tokuyama University (Yamaguchi branch)
Our employees were invited to give a 90 minute lecture on "Responsibility in road accidents and insurance" at Tokuyama University to 70 students including students from overseas. The talk focused both on general issues and specific issues related with the students such as the dangers related with university life and insurance. (May.18, 2007)
Cleaning the Bukhansan National Park (Korea branch)
All employees of the Korea branch helped cleaning the Bukhansan National Park that is situated north of Seoul. The day was refreshing both for its environment along a river and the sense of purification earned from cleaning it. (May.23, 2007)

Sign language club opened at The headquarter building
The WITH team* of the human resources sector opened a sign language club and is held 12 times annually.
The 15 participants that came together from in and out of the company, enjoy the evenings learning and conversing in sign language. (The club is held at the Arakawa Building in Tokyo).

Participating in the 23rd Sendai Aoba Festival (Tohoku Divisin)
50 employees of the Tohoku Head Office participated in the traditional "Suzuma Dance" in the Sendai Aoba Festival. This is the second consecutive year in which we participated and it is a highly entertaining way of interacting with the local community. (May.19 and 20, 2007)
